Websites That Would Make Great Author Websites | Web Design Relief

Every industry has its fair share of amazing and envy-inducing website designs. Whether you’re online shopping, reading blogs, or finding new recipes to try, you’re sure to find websites that are memorable and eye-catching. The design experts at Web Design Relief are constantly on the lookout for great elements and trends across all types of websites that would translate well into fresh, new looks for author websites. Here are just a few of our favorite websites that would also make great author websites.

Websites That Are Inspirations For Great Author Websites

https://www.hstyles.co.uk/

The website of English singer-songwriter and actor Harry Styles is a masterclass in smart web design. The layout features a minimalist design, yet has clear calls to action, creative imagery, and plenty of social media integration. We also love the “Watermelon Sugar” singer’s limited color palette, which allows the website to keep its clean appearance while deviating from a traditional black-and-white design with a soft take on the primary colors. This website would work for any writer who frequently releases new work or who simply wants a modern, distinctive design.

https://www.homsweethom.com/

Artist Lauren Hom’s website is both whimsical and professional. The simple menu bar allows for quick navigation, while the artist’s hero image (an oversized banner image, also called a “hero header”) presents the artist’s specialties with concise copy. The highlight of the website is the combination of simple and decorative fonts, which looks great and pays homage to Hom’s expertise in hand lettering. Writers should note the mix of creative arts with digital technology. The easy navigation is something we’d recommend for writers too!

https://bobbyflay.com/

Chef, restaurateur, and Food Network icon Bobby Flay’s website is not only perfect for a grill master, but it’s a great style choice for authors too! Flay’s homepage has a tastefully neutral color palette, and his website elements aren’t cluttered with too many cooks in the kitchen. The navigation quickly takes you to staple menu items like his portfolio and about page. His logo overlaid upon his headshot also adds a dash of flavor to the website design. When it comes to web designs that easily translate to other industries, Bobby Flay can’t be beat (see what we did there?).

https://pusheen.com/

Pusheen, the cartoon cat who rose to fame thanks to a Facebook sticker collection, has one of the most purrfect websites we’ve ever seen. While the website features a number of attractive elements, including a delightful color scheme, an eye-catching post slider, and in-motion comics, our favorite part of the design is the footer bar. The beloved web mascot pops out above the footer bar and encourages visitors to sign up for the newsletter—and who can say no to those kittenish charms? The official Pusheen website is wonderful inspiration for children’s book authors who can use the appeal (and adorableness) of their creative characters in a similar way.

https://milkbarstore.com/

The website design for Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar, an award-winning bakery chain known for their unconventional treats, packs a lot of punch into a single bite. The monochromatic color scheme helps the color image pop and draws the eye to the bright pink call-to-action button. We also love their use of a rotating banner, which proves moving elements still have a place on modern websites. The clean simplicity of the website design, paired with unexpected, understated motion, would also work well as an author website.

Creative, well-designed websites can (and should) inspire writers! From ease of navigation, to innovative layouts, to cohesive color palettes, authors can learn a lot from different website designs outside of the publishing industry. I cannot possibly detail how professional and helpful Web Design Relief has been in helping me launch my collection of short stories—there are just too many things they have done! They’ve been there for me all along the way, guiding me in developing my book and into the 21st century of web design and social media platforms. It could have been a bewildering journey; Instead it was one that was organized and so pleasant. Truly, Web Design Relief has blown me away by what they have created. The first time I watched my book trailer (who knew there were book trailers?), I cried. That team perfectly imaged what my book is about. I want to thank the whole team for their skill and creativity. I appreciate it so much.
